Shogo Oketani has written a finely observed journey down the memory lane of his Tokyo childhood, inspired by a westernized rock band called J-Boys. In 1965, Tokyo was reinventing itself, shedding off its image of postwar poverty and insularity in a race toward modernization in time for the Olympics. Oketani observes how ways of life changed for better and worse in the invented character Kazuo, a 9-year-old boy. Kazuo's story is structured month by month to form a year of highlights around Japanese holidays, seasonal activities, and everyday family life. In Kazuo's world, the local tofu maker still boils soymilk on a wood stove, an elderly couple ride the train clinging to a doll substitute for the only son they lost to war, stray dogs wander through toxic rivers, and a Korean classmate repatriated to North Korea is never heard from again. Each story in J-boys is illustrated with photographs from archival photos of the era. Unfamiliar Japanese terms and holidays are explained throughout, making J-Boys a useful primer for teachers seeking to introduce Japan at a time in its postwar history when an idealized picture of America beaming through the television set couldn't have contrasted more with the gritty hardships and old-fashioned joys of community life in Tokyo. Highly recommended for a touching slice of life not seen elsewhere in fiction from Japan.
米国大手ゲーム情報サイトIGNで、2008年10月29日に掲載された“ここ数年で最も怖いゲーム”のランキングでは、全13位中、見事1位を獲得したコンデムド無印、更にF.E.A.R.無印、2を手掛けた開発元モノリスプロダクションが、昔日本のマクロスやらガンダム等々ロボットアニメを参考にして手掛けたこの作品。 洋ゲー感あって、歩兵戦の場合その辺の仲間も殺しまくれるし、腕とか頭とか吹き飛ばせてグロい。しかもパワードスーツ着てるの居るから固い。生身は敵からの一撃で死ぬ場合も多いから難易度は半端なく高い。 ロボ戦は一応マクロス等々参考にしてるだけあってロボットが変形する。TPSにも出来ますが、まあ全体的にスポーツ系FPSです。しかもOPは日本人を使って歌わせてるのは驚いた。是非このゲームを手に入れてやってみて下さい。
"Tora! Tora! Tora!" (1970) is a recreation of the events leading up to and the Day of Infamy displayed from both sides of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Naturally there will always be people that are not satisfied with the accuracy of this recreation. There is a little controversy due to the collaboration between American and Japanese filmmakers causing some compromise of having both sides of the story in one film.
Other than a will paced film that keeps your attention, the real surprise is all the DVD goodies. The most important is the running narrative. It does some of the explaining of the differences between this film and reality without making excuses. After watching first with out the narrative, then with the narrative, it is time to watch it again and notice the points made on how the scenes were shot, the people picked and how they attempted to make the bulk of the film comply with history as we remember.
It does not make sense to repeat the narrative or the story in this review. Let's just say you will not be disappointed with the movie or all the DVD goodies.
